Budget Boutique
Some argue whether the boutique hotel concept was born in New York or London, but neither have the diversity of design properties like you'll find in Barcelona. From hotels owned by shoe designers to maritime-theme and the gastronomic, Hotel Praktik Bakery falls to the latter with its unique concept that marries one of the city's top bakeries with a seasonal hotelier. Located in the Eixample area, a fragrant working lobby is defined by large panes of glass that allow you to watch the floured faces in full baking action. Industrial elements brought in by designer Lazaro Rosa-Violán include red brick walls, factory light fixtures and actual storefront that allows you to by a trove of baked delicacies from Balaurd Bakery on-site. Textures of white marble, glossy white tiles and pops of bold yellow color leads to the rear eatery with more of a mid-century feel among its spare tabletops, wooden chairs and wrap-around banquette with tufted detailing.
The Room
Those looking for spacious accommodations may want to visit the bakery and then leave, rooms are a design achievement but in a very compact space of white wainscoting, inlayed white tile and double bed you can literally touch from the exterior hallway. Spare décor and contrasting black and white color palette give the illusion of more room, with pocket door that reveals a blue-tile bathroom with rain shower and local toiletries. Slightly larger exterior double rooms offer step-out balconies overlooking the Eixamble with soundproof windows that assure a good night sleep.
